She needed a lot of work!
The giant leg at Sun Aura resort is an actual working sundial. She stands 18 1/2 feet high and is 36 feet long. Built in about 1970 she has presided over our resort through 3 name changes and nearly 50 years. If by any chance you have pictures of our leg that date back to the 70's or 80's we'd love if you shared them with us. Just contact us!
The Restoration:
After purchasing camp in February of 2015 our new owners Marty and Diane knew that she needed to be brought back to her former glory or we'd risk losing her. 46 years in the Indiana weather had taken their toll. She's been painted numerous times over the last 4 decades, but this time a much more thorough approach was undertaken: take her all the way down, fix the flaws and fiberglas, and have her ready to withstand the next 40 years. Work started when the weather broke in March and she was completed just in time for Memorial Day. Below is a slideshow of the project. We hope you'll come and see her this season, whether it's for a stay at our resort, or just a quick stop to have a look our famous lady.
